History Lesson in Techology, No Grumbling Allowed

The real danger is not that computers will begin to think like men, but that men will begin to think like computers.  ~Sydney J. Harris

Once the very first personal computers were introduced, everyone was in shock. All of a sudden people could own a computer just as effective and robust as the massive mainframes. And these PCs were small enough that they could fit on their desk at work or even in their own home.

Although the majority of folks were very excited about these new computers, a small percentage of people were a little scared. Scared that computers would someday become self-aware and take over the world. Luckily, that hasn’t been the case. And eventually people were interested in making not just smaller computers, but portable ones as well.
The real advancement in portability came in 1983, when the first real laptop was released - the Compaq Portable.

Although the first laptops were fairly expensive, which put them out of reach of many comsumers. Later that same year, Tandy introduced a lower price model which brought the power of laptops to many more offices and homes across the country. Today, laptops have evolved even further into Notebooks, PowerBooks, ThinkPads, and now even the iPad.

The invention of Desktop RAID and other storage solutions have increased the power of PCs and laptops. Lithium technological developments have done even more to affect the power of laptops and other portable devices. And with the fast-pace of IT today, there is surely more coming our way soon.
